10 Things I Miss About The USA
1. Chicago Style Pizza
Italian-style pizza is fantastic, but there's just something about the thick, delicious cheese and pile of sky-high tomatoes that makes my mouth water even more.
2. Inexpensive Oreos
They have Oreos here, but since they're imported, they're expensive. Boo.
3. The USD
I don't even want to think of all the money lost this summer, but I do know that for ever £3.30 pounds spent, I lose a dollar.
4. Flat land
There. Are. Hills. Everywhere. Here. I'm not exaggerating. The buildings are built into them, so you could start at the very bottom of a hill in the front of a building, and be at the peak once you reach the side door. In Illinois, the highest hill I've seen in months was the ant hill in my backyard. I kind of miss not struggling while taking a ten-minute walk.
5. 4G Data
In Scotland, I have unlimited 2G data--which is pretty useless when you need Google Maps to function so you can reach your destination by nightfall.
6. Lemonade
Lemonade here refers to Sprite. That delicious lemony drink that Americans mean when we say lemonade? I don't really think it exists over here. If it does, I haven't even seen a hint of it in almost 2 months.
7. American Netflix
British Netflix is great because it's got Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but I miss Friends--and I want to watch Moana!
8. Alexa
My little Amazon Echo speaker that my housemates make fun of me for yelling at? I miss that brat--even though she never listens.
9. Driving on the Right Side of the Road
I had just gotten used to looking right first when crossing the street. Then, I went to Belgium, where they don't drive on the "wrong" side of the road, and now I'm confused all over again back in the UK. I also kind of miss driving in general.
10. Friends and Family
Last but not least. My family has been posting pictures of themselves at Jamaican festivals and concerts and cooking with my grandparents--without me. How disrespectful. My coworkers, roommates, boo thang, and host of friends as well--everybody going on vacation and to DJ parties and hanging out downtown Chicago and Champaign--without me? The nerve.
I'm kidding. I'm glad they're all having fun. But I miss them!
I miss my work babies, too, and can't wait to tell them all about the castles I got to visit!
See you soon, America!
